Collection contains materials related to Knights's involvement in Bureau of Reclamation construction projects. Collection includes planning reports and specifications of several projects, most notably the Blue-South Platte River Project, the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, and the Shoshone Project's Heart Mountain Division; as well as maps and diagrams of the Heart Mountain Division and Heart Mountain Relocation Center; and his undergraduate work from the University of Wyoming. Also included are Knights's diaries from 1942-1948.

James H. Knights, born in 1906 in Chicago, Illinois, spent over thirty years with the United States Bureau of Reclamation as a civil engineer. Knights graduated in 1929 from the University of Wyoming with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and worked on several highway and bridge construction projects from 1929-1933.
